Statement comes day after Saudi Arabia told Yemeni separatists to withdraw from eastern governorates seized this month.
The United Arab Emirates has expressed support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to restore stability in Yemen, following Saudi calls for the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to withdraw from Hadramout and al-Mahra. The STC, which recently advanced and displaced the Saudi-backed government from Aden, has threatened the fragile coalition fighting Houthi rebels. A Saudi-Emirati military delegation has been dispatched to facilitate the STC’s return to previous positions as tensions escalate in the region. Yemen has been embroiled in civil war since 2014, with the Houthis controlling the north and the STC seeking autonomy in the south.
