Soldier Surrendered After Traveling to Palmerston North

The NZ Defence Force reported that Soldier A, who was armed with knives and petrol bombs, was “agitated” before surrendering to police and remained “highly stressed” afterward. During a High Court hearing, lawyer Sally McKechnie revealed that Soldier A had made threats, prompting a five-hour police search, including the Armed Offenders Squad. Authorities believed he threatened to kill and intended to use petrol bombs to burn down a house. The Defence Force sought adjustments to suppression orders to allow media reporting on the situation.
