Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi, executive director of the African Population and Health Research Center, expressed concern over the termination of vital health programs in Africa, including H.I.V. treatment, malaria control, and polio eradication efforts. The cancelled projects include initiatives such as polio immunization programs, malaria prevention measures, malnutrition treatment, Ebola contact tracing, and medical supply distribution, impacting millions of people across various countries. The cuts have halted critical services like tuberculosis medication distribution, maternal and child health services, and neglected tropical disease prevention, putting vulnerable populations at immediate risk of death and worsening health outcomes in affected regions.
