Two men are in critical condition in hospital after a road traffic collision in Kilkenny on Thursday evening.

A third man was also hospitalised and is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The collision, which involved two vehicles, happened between Junction 8 and Junction 9 of the M9 southbound at approximately 7.35pm yesterday.

The male driver and male passenger of one car, both in their 30s, were taken to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries. They are now understood to be in critical condition.

Gardaí have warned that the M9 Southbound between Junction 8 (Kilkenny) and Junction 9 (Kilkenny South) remains closed this morning with diversions in place.

A technical examination of the scene is to be conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
