Two men, Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, have been prosecuted for the deliberate felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree, which had stood for over 100 years, using a chainsaw. Prosecutor Richard Wright KC described their actions as a “moronic mission” and highlighted the “expertise and a determined, deliberate approach” displayed during this act of “mindless criminal damage.” The case was presented at Newcastle crown court, emphasizing the severity of the crime against a historic landmark along Hadrian’s Wall.
