The clinics were intended to reduce wait lists for surgeries under the public health plan. Former head of Alberta Health Services, Athana Mentzelopoulos, has filed a wrongful dismissal suit, claiming pressure to sign off on contracts despite cost concerns and ownership confusion. The allegations are being investigated by the government and Alberta’s auditor general.
