Sara Souissi, a female fisher on a Tunisian island, faces challenges from both entrenched patriarchy and environmental threats to her livelihood as she readies her small boat for fishing. Despite resistance from men who believed she didn’t belong at sea, Souissi began fishing as a teenager in her family’s fishing business in the Kerkennah Islands. She continues to defy societal norms as she works to sustain her fishing trade and push back against gender stereotypes in her male-dominated profession.
