Students at the University of York’s West Campus will see tuition fees rise to £9,535 a year from 2025, the first increase in over seven years, due to a funding crisis in the university sector. This decision by education secretary Bridget Phillipson has sparked anger among students and families, despite her assurance that it will not cost graduates more each month. The increase in tuition fees will be accompanied by a 3% rise in maintenance loans for students, with opposition from Shadow education secretary Laura Trott and Green Party MP Ellie Chowns.
