Trump’s Board of Peace calls for funding fix in Gaza

A UN-approved body overseeing the administration and reconstruction of Gaza has reported that pledged funds have not materialized, creating a significant gap between the funds disbursed and the $17bn promised. The Board of Peace, established by former US President Donald Trump, warned of the lack of funds needed to progress with efforts in Gaza, where 85% of buildings and infrastructure have been destroyed. Despite pledges from countries like the US, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, only a small portion of the funds have been received, hindering reconstruction efforts in the devastated Palestinian territory.

Why It Matters

The failure of promised funds to materialize for Gaza’s reconstruction highlights the challenges faced by the region in rebuilding after years of conflict and destruction. The Board of Peace’s funding shortfall underscores concerns about its effectiveness and the reluctance of some countries to participate in the peace plan. With the urgent need to address the destruction in Gaza, closing the funding gap is crucial to delivering tangible results for its people.
