President considers using federal law to deploy the military in Minneapolis, where protests are ongoing after two shootings by federal agents within a week.
President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act to deploy troops in Minneapolis amid protests following two shootings by federal agents, one of which injured a Venezuelan man and another that killed US citizen Renee Good. Tensions escalated as Trump accused local politicians of failing to control demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the situation as unsustainable, with federal forces overwhelming local police. The Department of Homeland Security reported over 2,000 arrests in Minnesota since December, amidst accusations of misconduct and increasing assaults on agents.
