President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on the BRICS coalition if they move away from trading in U.S. dollars, stating they must not create a new currency. The BRICS alliance, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, discussed “de-dollarization” at a recent summit, but experts doubt their ability to create a new global currency. Trump also threatened tariffs on Mexico and China for different reasons, including addressing the fentanyl crisis, and had discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and Mexican President Sheinbaum regarding trade and immigration issues.
