Trump Announces Ceasefire Renewal between Thailand and Cambodia

Thailand and Cambodia have reportedly agreed to a ceasefire effective Friday, as announced by U.S. President Donald Trump following discussions with both countries’ leaders. This agreement comes amidst a five-day escalation of cross-border fighting that has resulted in at least 20 deaths and the displacement of around half a million people. The conflict stems from ongoing territorial disputes exacerbated by historical grievances, and while Trump seeks to reinforce his peacemaker image, neither side has independently confirmed the ceasefire. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul indicated that Cambodia must also comply for the ceasefire to hold.
