President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he has ordered a 25% increase in tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports, bringing the total duties to 50%. The new policy will take effect on Wednesday morning, with Trump urging for Canada to be absorbed into the U.S. as the “Fifty First State.” The decision to impose the additional tariffs was made in response to Ontario’s government imposing a 25% tax on electricity exports to the U.S., a move that was retaliation for the initial tariffs placed by Trump on Canadian imports.
