President Donald Trump fired Air Force Gen. CQ Brown Jr. as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, part of a campaign to remove military leaders supporting diversity and equity, replacing him with retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine. Two other senior officers were also fired. Brown’s backing of Black Lives Matter made him a target, despite support from key members of Congress and a friendly meeting with Trump in December. The move follows Pentagon upheaval, including planned civilian worker cuts and program reductions to fund Trump’s priorities.
