President Donald Trump endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ahead of Hungary’s parliamentary elections, praising him as a strong leader and drawing parallels between their policies on immigration and law enforcement. Despite Orban’s long tenure, his Fidesz party faces challenges as polls show a rival party gaining support amid economic difficulties and criticisms of Orban’s authoritarianism. Trump has actively influenced foreign elections, raising concerns about undermining democracy through his endorsements and threats related to U.S. aid. His backing of Orban aligns with his support for other right-wing leaders globally.
