Trump Administration Supports Lawsuit Over California Redistricting Maps

Voters in California approved Proposition 50, which may allow Democrats to gain up to five additional seats in the US House in 2026 by redrawing congressional districts. The Trump administration has joined a lawsuit against this redistricting effort, claiming it unlawfully favors Hispanic communities and undermines civil rights. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the lawsuit as an attempt to maintain Republican power. The new district boundaries, set to affect elections through 2030, are designed to dilute Republican influence.
