Supreme Court permits Trump administration to delay some SNAP payments

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court temporarily allowed the Trump administration to withhold $4 billion in SNAP food benefits payments mandated by a federal judge. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued the stay to enable the Boston-based appeals court to review the case. The administration argued that due to the government shutdown, it could only provide partial benefits, and objected to drawing from other funding sources. This marks the first lapse in SNAP benefits due to a government shutdown in the program’s 61-year history, impacting nearly 42 million recipients.
