Tropical Storm Podul drenches southern China

Tropical Storm Podul has impacted southern China, bringing over 70mm of rain per hour to Guangdong, Hunan, and Jiangxi, and prompting Hong Kong to issue a “black” weather warning, disrupting court proceedings and shutting down out-patient clinics. After weakening from a typhoon in Taiwan, Podul is expected to cause further damage as it moves northwest, exacerbating extreme weather challenges linked to climate change.
