Motorists were strongly advised to avoid travel across central Pennsylvania on Thursday morning due to an ongoing ice storm impacting the area, with significant icing causing dangerous road conditions and power outages. Widespread freezing rain hit the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic, prompting NWS meteorologists to issue winter weather advisories and warnings from Indiana through Maine, with up to half an inch of ice accumulation expected. Strong winds with gusts up to 30 mph could exacerbate power outages by breaking tree limbs, but temperatures are expected to warm up by the afternoon, ending the freezing rain.
