Under the USBRL project, speed trials were conducted on the routes between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal, reaching speeds up to 110 kmph. The commissioner of railway safety approved passenger and freight operations on the Katra-Reasi section, marking the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project. The authorisation includes specific conditions, such as monitoring systems for bridges and tunnels, with expectations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the service soon.
