Dalton, Georgia — Local authorities in Dalton dismissed traffic charges against 19-year-old Ximena Arias Cristobal, a Mexican-born student detained by ICE after a May 5 traffic stop. The police admitted to stopping the wrong vehicle, yet Arias Cristobal remains in ICE custody facing deportation due to her undocumented status, as she does not qualify for DACA. Her father, also detained, and federal officials assert they will enforce immigration laws despite the local jurisdiction’s review and regret over the incident.
