Sky News’ Data and Forensics team tracked the US-sanctioned oil tanker Marinera, which attempted to hide its identity before being seized off Iceland on 7 January. The US military captured the vessel, formerly Bella 1, with support from the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Flight tracking data revealed US aircraft movements prior to the seizure, showing the tanker’s journey from Iran to the Atlantic, where it was last spotted near Antigua and Barbuda on 17 December.
