Tunisia has sacked coach Sami Trabelsi a day after their penalty shootout defeat to Mali in the last-16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). The team, which had an extra player for over 90 minutes and led until the 88th minute, conceded a late penalty and lost in the shootout. The Tunisian Football Federation announced the termination of Trabelsi’s contract by mutual consent after he acknowledged his responsibility for the disappointing outcome. Trabelsi, 57, returned to coach the Carthage Eagles in February after previously resigning in 2013.
