Man expresses regret in voice memo about not harming friend

A man named Scott Dagg has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempting to murder a friend in Blackburn, Lancashire. The incident occurred in April of the previous year, when Dagg attacked the victim, who is in his 30s, leaving him with serious stab wounds that required hospitalization. Emergency workers found Dagg nearby, covered in blood and behaving erratically. CCTV footage captured him discarding his phone, which contained WhatsApp messages bragging about the attack and expressing regret that the victim did not die. Dagg was arrested following the incident, and despite being initially released on bail, he was re-arrested later for the serious charge of attempted murder after further investigation.

Why It Matters

This case highlights the ongoing issue of violent crime and the potential dangers posed by individuals who exhibit aggressive behavior. The use of social media, such as WhatsApp, to boast about violent acts raises concerns about accountability and the normalization of such behavior among peers. Stabbing incidents remain a significant concern in the UK, prompting law enforcement and community leaders to address underlying factors contributing to violence. Dagg’s conviction reflects the judicial system’s response to serious crimes and serves as a deterrent against similar acts of violence.
