Three cabin crew members were hospitalized following severe turbulence on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to Sydney. The incident occurred shortly before the plane landed at Sydney Airport around 7 a.m. on Friday, with emergency services notified of the injuries at approximately 6:45 a.m. In total, five individuals, including the three crew members, required medical attention after the turbulence caused several passengers and crew to be thrown into the air. The injured crew members were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment, although their injuries are not considered serious.

Why It Matters

Severe turbulence incidents, such as this one, can pose significant safety risks on commercial flights. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), turbulence accounts for a substantial number of in-flight injuries each year, with most incidents occurring unexpectedly. The FAA has noted that flight attendants are particularly vulnerable during turbulence, which can lead to serious injuries if they are not seated. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to safety protocols during flights, especially when turbulence is anticipated. As air travel continues to increase, awareness and preparedness for turbulence remain crucial for passenger and crew safety.
