A man in his 60s is in serious condition after being struck by a bus in Thornlie, Perth, on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on Garden Street around 7:40 a.m., prompting the response of three ambulance crews. The pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital with lights and sirens activated. As a result of the accident, Garden Street has been closed to northbound traffic between Bridge Road and the Bridgeway in Canning Vale. Main Roads WA has advised drivers to find alternate routes due to heavy traffic in the area.

Why It Matters

Pedestrian safety is a growing concern in urban areas, with incidents involving vehicles becoming increasingly common. In Australia, there were over 12,000 reported pedestrian injuries in 2021, highlighting the risks faced by those on foot. The impact of such accidents extends beyond the immediate injuries, often affecting traffic patterns and emergency services. Increased awareness and improved infrastructure are essential for reducing such incidents and enhancing public safety.
