164 countries agreed to ban landmines in 1997, yet they continue to harm civilians outside of war zones. Russia and Myanmar are among those still using landmines, with Russia using them in Ukraine and Myanmar in their civil war against rebels. Despite the treaty, the use of landmines persists in various conflicts around the world, leading to continued casualties.
