One of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s cherished playgrounds, Kennedy Park, has reopened following significant upgrades to its equipment and matting. The renovation, which cost $120,000, was supported by an $80,000 election commitment from Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent and an additional $40,000 from Northern Star Resources, the owner of the Super Pit. Sarsha Lander, the EPIC Goldfields regional operational manager, expressed gratitude for the investment, emphasizing the park’s importance as a safe play space for families. The park is notably one of the few in the area that is fully fenced, providing security for parents with young children. Community input was gathered to determine the necessary improvements, ensuring that the upgrades align with local priorities for accessible play areas.

Why It Matters

Kennedy Park’s renovation highlights the importance of community engagement in public space development. Safe and accessible playgrounds are crucial for child development, offering environments where children can play and socialize. The funding for these upgrades reflects a commitment to enhance community infrastructure, particularly in areas that support families. Historically, parks like Kennedy Park serve as vital community hubs, fostering social interaction and providing recreational opportunities that can positively impact public health and well-being.
