Young music enthusiasts in the Great Southern region will have the opportunity to explore musical instruments during the Benny Mayhem Band’s National Youth Music Workshops and Community Concert series on April 10 in Cranbrook. The event, hosted at the Cranbrook Town Oval, will feature free workshops from 2:30 PM to 4 PM, allowing children and teenagers to try their hand at drums, bass, guitar, and vocals, with guidance from the band members. No prior musical experience is required, as the workshops aim to inspire young people and demonstrate the possibility of pursuing a music career from their local communities. Following the workshops, the band will hold a free concert at 5:30 PM, performing original songs and popular covers. The band has conducted similar workshops across over 10% of Western Australia’s local government areas, emphasizing their commitment to providing real-world musical experiences.

Why It Matters

Music education initiatives like the Benny Mayhem Band’s workshops are crucial for fostering creativity and artistic expression among youth. Access to such opportunities can significantly impact a child’s interest in pursuing music, promoting cultural engagement and personal development. Historically, community music programs have been linked to increased participation in the arts and improved social cohesion. This particular event reflects a broader trend of local artists engaging with their communities to inspire the next generation, building a more vibrant cultural landscape in regional areas.
