Thailand and Cambodia have signed a ceasefire agreement effective at noon local time, ending weeks of armed conflict over territorial disputes. The pact prohibits military movements and airspace violations, with Thailand agreeing to repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers after 72 hours if the ceasefire holds. The agreement was signed by both countries’ defense ministers following three days of talks amid ongoing tensions since a previous ceasefire in July, which was influenced by US pressure. Casualties have been significant on both sides, and hundreds of thousands have been evacuated from the border areas.
