Tesco’s CEO Ken Murphy has confirmed that the supermarket will not source American beef despite a recent UK-US trade deal allowing US farmers a quota to export beef to the UK. Tesco, which holds a 28% share of the UK grocery market, plans to continue sourcing 100% of its beef from Ireland and Britain, while Sainsbury’s also follows a similar sourcing policy. The trade deal includes various provisions, but without support from major supermarkets, American beef may struggle to enter the UK market.
