Telstra warns of new wave of scams on encrypted messaging apps

Telstra warns that popular encrypted messaging platforms are increasingly being exploited by scammers, as their end-to-end encryption limits the ability of telecom providers to detect and block fraudulent activities. Despite a significant rise in sophisticated scams, the National Anti-Scam Centre reported a 25% decrease in financial losses from 2023 to 2024, highlighting ongoing efforts in scam prevention across the industry.
