Maya Mackey, who has always practiced sun safety, was shocked to discover she had basal cell carcinoma at 24, leading to surgery and a renewed commitment to sun protection. Alarmingly, 72% of surveyed teens experienced sunburn last summer, emphasizing the need for better sun safety habits. Pediatrician Anthea Rhodes warns that social media trends may contribute to teens’ lack of understanding about the dangers of tanning.
