Young people under 25 may soon have the opportunity to join the Armed Forces for paid gap year placements lasting up to two years, starting in March 2025. This initiative, endorsed by Air Chief Marshal Sir Rich Knighton, aims to acclimatize youth to military life while providing valuable skills, with plans to expand to over 1,000 placements annually. Defense Secretary John Healey emphasized the importance of showcasing military opportunities to young people. Similar schemes are being introduced in other countries, including a voluntary military service in France.
