Target has issued a recall for over 200,000 pairs of children’s sandals due to a choking hazard. The Cat & Jack-branded raffia sandals, featuring two raffia straps with gold buckles and plastic pearls, have been reported to have pearls fall off, leading the retailer to advise customers to stop using them immediately. Although Target received 23 reports of this issue, no injuries have been reported. Affected consumers can return the sandals for a full refund either in-store or via a prepaid mail label. The sandals were sold from January to May 2026 at a price of approximately $20.

Why It Matters

This recall highlights ongoing concerns regarding child safety in consumer products, particularly in the toy and apparel sectors. Choking hazards have been a recurring issue in children’s products, prompting companies like Target to take precautionary measures to protect young consumers. Historical data shows that recalls related to choking hazards have increased over the years, reflecting heightened awareness and regulatory scrutiny over product safety. Target has previously faced similar recalls, indicating a pattern that underscores the importance of stringent safety checks in the manufacturing of children’s items.
