Taiwan president wants exchanges with China, sees lack of goodwill

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te expressed a desire for equal and dignified exchanges with China, despite Beijing’s restrictions on tourism and interactions with Taiwan, questioning China’s goodwill. Lai emphasized the importance of reciprocity and dignity in relations between the two countries, urging China to treat everyone equally and allow normal interactions. As tensions between Taiwan and China persist, Lai called for unity among democracies to strengthen defence and security against authoritarian threats, emphasizing the need for peace, democracy, and prosperity in the New Year.
