Syrian government forces entered the northern towns of Deir Hafer and Maskana after Kurdish-led fighters announced their withdrawal to avoid conflict, resulting in clashes that left two soldiers dead. The Syrian military claimed full control of Deir Hafer and continued advancing east, while over 11,000 people fled the area. Tensions eased following U.S. talks with both the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian officials. A recent decree by Syria’s interim President recognized Kurdish rights, though SDF leaders emphasized the need for constitutional guarantees.
