Syria’s Interior Ministry says the killers likely planted misleading slogans to inflame tensions.
Following the murder of a Bedouin couple in Homs, Syrian authorities have extended a curfew to control rising sectarian tensions. The Interior Ministry stated that the sectarian slogans found at the crime scene were likely intended to mislead investigators, with no evidence of a sectarian motive. Retaliatory violence from the Bani Khalid tribe ensued, prompting security forces to arrest 120 suspects. This incident poses a challenge for the interim government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which aims to maintain stability in the historically diverse and tumultuous city.
