He fled Syria's war as a teenager. He went back to help launch a tech industry

Abdulwahab Omira, a 28-year-old U.S. citizen and graduate student at Stanford, returned to Syria to explore ways the tech industry could help rebuild the war-torn country. He escaped Syria’s civil war as a teenager, after being imprisoned and witnessing terrible abuses. Despite the challenges in Syria, Omira believes in the resilience of the Syrian people and their potential to rebuild. Raised in a refugee camp in Turkey before moving to the U.S., Omira overcame language barriers and educational obstacles to excel academically and pursue a career in technology.
