Swiss authorities disclosed that fire safety inspections had not been conducted at the Le Constellation ski bar in Crans-Montana since 2019, leading to a tragic fire that claimed the lives of 40 individuals during New Year’s celebrations. The lack of periodic inspections between 2020 and 2025 was regretted by Crans-Montana Mayor Nicolas Feraud, who stated that the foam on the bar’s ceiling, believed to have caused the fire, was deemed acceptable during the last safety check. As a result, sparkler candles have been prohibited in bars and clubs in the area, and all public establishments will undergo further inspections by an external agency. The individuals responsible for running the bar are under investigation for potential crimes, including homicide by negligence, although they are not currently considered flight risks.
