Study: Drinkers with low moods experience more hangover anxiety

A new Australian study from the Swinburne Centre for Mental Health reveals that individuals already prone to anxiety or low mood are more likely to experience “hangxiety” after drinking, as alcohol temporarily masks negative emotions but leads to heightened anxiety the next day. Despite 70% of drinkers reporting such feelings, many continue to drink, often trying to mitigate physical symptoms rather than addressing the underlying emotional distress.
