Supreme Court considers changes to gun ownership laws for marijuana users

The Supreme Court is considering a case that could ease a federal law preventing marijuana users from owning firearms. A majority of justices appear inclined to support Texas resident Ali Danial Hemani, who argues that occasional marijuana use should not criminalize his gun ownership. Justices from both sides expressed skepticism about the government’s rationale for the law, while concerns were raised that a ruling in favor of Hemani might complicate gun ownership regulations for users of other substances. The court is expected to reach a decision by the end of June.
