Sudan’s Burhan arrives in Turkey on heels of Eritrea visit, key victories

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan’s de facto leader, attended Turkey’s Antalya Diplomacy Forum alongside other leaders, including Syria’s interim President and Saudi Foreign Minister, while also meeting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to enhance bilateral relations. Following his visit to Turkey, Burhan met Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, who reaffirmed Eritrea’s support for Sudan amid ongoing civil conflict, which has seen significant military gains for Burhan’s forces against the paramilitary RSF. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has resulted in high casualties and widespread displacement, with both factions accused of atrocities.
