A recent 12-week study involving 72 participants with prediabetes found that substituting white rice with black beans or chickpeas could significantly lower inflammation markers, with chickpeas also linked to reduced blood cholesterol levels. Although the study’s small size and short duration necessitate further research, the findings were presented at the Nutrition 2025 meeting of the American Society for Nutrition in Orlando, Florida. Experts suggest that due to the affordability and health benefits of black beans and chickpeas, this dietary intervention warrants additional exploration.
