Strong Museum Video Game Hall of Fame nominees include Myst, Metroid, and Asteroids

The Strong National Museum of Play has revealed the 12 finalists for its World Video Game Hall of Fame. These nominees span various genres and go all the way back to the 1970s. Only a select few games will be chosen for induction. Who will make the cut this year? Let’s take a closer look at the nominees.

Finalists for the 2024 class include:

• Asteroids
• Elite
• Guitar Hero
• Metroid
• Myst
• Neopets
• Resident Evil
• SimCity
• Tokimeki Memorial
• Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
• Ultima
• You Don’t Know Jack

Some of these games have been finalists in previous years. For example, Myst and Resident Evil have been nominated before but fell short. Guitar Hero has also made it to the finals in the past.

Jon-Paul C. Dyson, director of The Strong’s International Center for the History of Electronic Games, mentioned that even after 10 years, there are still many deserving games that have left a significant mark on pop culture and the gaming industry.

Typically, four games are inducted into the Hall of Fame each year. Personally, I would choose Myst and Resident Evil without hesitation. Myst was groundbreaking in its visuals when it was released in 1993, while Resident Evil was a standout horror game.

The other two spots would likely go to Guitar Hero and Metroid. Guitar Hero was a blast to play with friends, and Metroid’s Super Metroid for the SNES left a lasting impression.

Voting for your favorite game is open until March 21 via the Player’s Choice Ballot. Which game will you choose?

The inductees will be announced on May 9.
