The Times Square ball in New York City will make its historic descent on July 3, 2026, as part of the celebrations for America’s 250th birthday, marking the first time it will drop outside of New Year’s Eve. The event will feature eight coordinated ball drops across various U.S. time zones, starting at 10 a.m. ET with Guam and concluding at 7 a.m. ET on July 4 in American Samoa. This nationwide initiative, organized by America250, aims to foster a sense of unity among Americans and promote charitable engagement through the Giving 4th initiative. The live broadcast, hosted by Jim Gaffigan, will begin at 9 p.m. ET, showcasing performances by notable artists, including Mary J. Blige and Brad Paisley, as part of the inaugural Giving 4th Broadcast Benefit Show.

Why It Matters

This event is significant as it commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States, an important milestone in the nation’s history. The coordinated ball drops represent a unique way to engage citizens across the country in a shared celebration, reflecting America’s diverse time zones and territories. The initiative also emphasizes community involvement and charitable giving, encouraging citizens to contribute to local organizations. This celebration follows the redesign of the Times Square ball, which was unveiled during the 2025-26 New Year’s Eve festivities, symbolizing ongoing traditions in American culture and collective national pride.
