Virginia Au Pair Sentenced to 10 Years for Double Murder
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Brazilian au pair Juliana Peres Magalhães was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by two years of probation, for her role in a double murder plot alongside former IRS agent Brendan Banfield. The Fairfax County judge emphasized her “deliberate” actions that showed a “profound disregard for human life.” Magalhães, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2024, admitted to firing the fatal shot that killed Joseph Ryan during a plot to murder Banfield’s wife. Both Magalhães and Banfield were involved in a scheme that included catfishing and ultimately led to the tragic events of February 2023.
