Greg Bovino Resumes Role as Border Patrol Commander in El Centro

Customs and Border Protection commander Greg Bovino is returning to El Centro, California, as chief of that sector after a temporary stint as commander-at-large, according to sources. The position was temporary, but Department of Homeland Security official Tricia McLaughlin affirmed Bovino’s importance to the administration. His return coincides with rising tensions following a federal agent-involved shooting in Minneapolis, which has sparked controversy over the agents’ actions during the incident. Local officials dispute the agency’s characterization of the shooting, claiming the individual involved was lawfully carrying a gun and not threatening agents.
