Last US cents sold for $16.7 million

America’s smallest coins, the final minted pennies, sold for over $16.76 million at an auction by Stack’s Bowers Galleries. The auction featured 232 sets of three coins, each including a 2025 penny and a 24-karat gold penny, all embossed with an omega symbol marking their significance. The last set sold for $800,000, and minting of new pennies halted in November 2023 due to production costs, despite existing pennies remaining in circulation.
