Luigi Mangione surveilled United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson before allegedly shooting him in December 2024, as revealed by Manhattan prosecutors. Evidence from Mangione’s diary indicates a premeditated motive against the healthcare industry, suggesting he initially considered a different target but ultimately chose Thompson, viewing him as a symbol of corporate greed. The prosecution is pursuing first-degree murder charges with a terrorism enhancement, citing the chilling effect on UHC employees and the intimidation of the healthcare sector.
